Most of what people come here for is within a twenty-minute drive of each other.
Goldstream Provincial Park
Old-growth cedars, a river you walk alongside rather than above, and the autumn salmon run that draws both crowds and eagles. The park is busiest in late autumn for exactly that reason; the rest of the year it is quiet on weekday mornings.
Thetis Lake Regional Park
Swimming in summer and a network of loop trails around the lakes through the rest of the year. The main beach parking fills early on hot weekends.
Witty's Lagoon and Devonian
Metchosin's shoreline parks, with a waterfall on the way down to the beach at Witty's and a short walk to the sand at Devonian. Tides matter here — at low water the beach opens up considerably.
Esquimalt Lagoon
A migratory bird sanctuary with a road along the spit, so it is reachable for people who cannot manage trails. Birdlife is best outside the summer months.
